It is with
great pleasure that we welcome you to this little electronic piece of
Campeche State and
Campeche City in Mexico's Yucatan
Peninsula. With its
Historic Downtown World Heritage Site, Campeche city is a wonderful
place for Mexico vacations. This Mexican State is a warm land of warm people with an approximate population of
800,000. Campeche City's population hovers around 275,000. Best time to
visit is November to April when the weather is warm but not very hot.
May thru august the temperature might be too much for some Canadians,
although fishing is
better in the summer. Whether your Mexico vacations plans
involve a week or a winter, Campeche has much to offer, although
do not expect your typical beach and beer-spring break kind of
spot. This is more like San Miguel de Allende meets the Gulf of
Mexico, a charming relaxing place from Colonial Mexico. However, if activity is
what you want you can hike around Mayan pyramids, go fishing for tarpon, snooks or cudas,
jog along a beautiful embankment or walk for hours
admiring 16th to18th century architecture.
We hope you
will find in this simple but elegant website all the information you
require to learn about the great tourist attractions as well as the great
retirement and extended stay opportunities in Campeche, the Hidden
Treasure of Mexico in the Yucatan peninsula.
Campeche has
been home to the Mayan Culture for over 2,000 years. It is rich in Mayan
settlements, such as Edzná and Calakmul. Campeche City and Calakmul
are World Heritage Sites worth visiting. For those who seek peace and
tranquility in a warm and beautiful environment during our Canadian
winters, there are few places like Campeche, the Hidden Treasure of
Mexico.
Campeche
City, the capital of the state is sister city of Halifax, Nova Scotia,
Canada and
a World Heritage Site.
It's historic downtown is an excellent example of 17th Century walled
cities. Campeche built it's fortified walls because of continued
attacks by European pirates. Today, in addition to the Historic downtown,
you can visit two forts on either side of the city, which served as
sentinels and now preside over gorgeous views and fantastic sunsets. Take
a walk along the waterfront.
Once again,
welcome. Please navigate the site to learn about Campeche:
how to get
there, where to stay,
where to eat, what to eat or not to eat, cost of
properties for those who are searching for a winter home and how to say a
few things in Spanish or Mayan as the case may be. You may have had
other Mexico vacations. Visit Campeche,
and discover a new experience, discover a treasure.
weather: warm to hot all year
round. best time to visit - November through early April. May
through September may be too hot and humid for Canadians and other
northern peoples. Do you mind the heat?
