A few years ago Canadian Richard
Bertram visited Campeche state on vacation and became enamored with
Campeche's biosphere ecoreserve near the ancient Mayan City of Calakmul.
Not only did he love the area, but he saw an opportunity. He must have
imagined beautiful rustic cottages in the middle of this jungle with
comfortable beds, designed primarily for couples in search of Mayan culture,
adventure and romance.
Years went by and finally Richard
opened his place right by highway 186 that crosses the state between
Escarcega and Chicaná, the main thoroughfare to Calakmul and other ancient
Mayan sites. He called it Rio Bec Dreams. Watch for the British, Mexican and
Canadian flags and it's right there.
The small bedroom/cottages are
tastefully designed with comfortable beds. Sleep to the sounds of the
jungle as close to nature as you can comfortably get around here. Rio
Bec Dreams has a full service restaurant with a menu designed for the
foreign traveller in mind.
If you don't have time for an
overnight stay, but your driving through the area, stop by and have a cold
one at Richard's bar. |
